Deb Patterson Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening statement...

“We are extremely excited to open Big 12 play 1-0. I think our crowd tonight was absolutely off the hook. There is not one of us that went into the locker room and did not talk about the purple Wildcat fans showing up. I think as much as we are excited about this win we are just as excited that we won it in front of our great, loyal, and purple fans in Bramlage Coliseum. I know that meant the world to the senior class. There is nothing more that we can talk about that means more to us besides the win tonight than the turn out we had tonight from our fan base and how they inspire the basketball team. I think tonight is a great first step as we open Big 12 play.”

On transition from non-conference to the conference schedule...

“I am really pleased with tonight’s game. I think it was a buzz saw type of game. I think our team was hitting on all cylinders and I was very pleased with how we built off our non-conference slate and our understanding of how we need to play to stay in games. I don’t expect this big of win in most of the Big 12 games. I certainly don’t expect it when we go back to KU. It was a very great feeling and I am very proud of what our young people brought to the floor tonight in terms of their toughness and focus. It is exciting to be in the position that we are in after this game. We will enjoy the win tonight and start getting ready for the next Big 12 opponent tomorrow.”

On the status of her team at this point of the season...

“I am excited with where we are at. Tonight was a good test on whether we were going to bring the toughness and consistency that you need to win in the Big 12. Things are a little different when you are at home; we had a great crowd tonight. I think we played and competed very well together. I think that is what is going to give us our best shot at being competitive this season. I feel we are further along than we expected to be at this point in the season. It is a long season and we still have a lot ahead of us, but tonight was a win.”
