K-State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

On the post defense...

“I think it was important for us in this game to assert that we were going to defend post play and rebound well. I think those were the two elements of the game that were really a preoccupation for us going in and I am really pleased with the performance that we brought on the defensive end of the floor. I thought we held our own against a very talented offensive rebounding team.”

On starting 3-0 in the conference...

“This is a time that just consistently worked hard to get better everyday. It really comes down to the basics of being resilient and consistent. We had some losses that were disappointing to us in the preseason. This group is determined to learn and improve. That is the ultimate goal and the biggest statement right now about our basketball team. It sounds very simple but it’s not a very simple thing to do a lot of times when you face discouragement. They have great character and great toughness.”

On Ashley Sweat...

“In these first three games we have had great play from Ashley, a lot of that has come from her willingness over the course of the non-conference to get better. It’s that simple phrase when you are frustrated or disappointed early. You just have to be resilient and that is one of the things I respect about Ashley. She brings a high level of maturity as a competitor. Not being driven by anything but the next opportunity to get better. That’s what has put her in position to be successful as we have entered conference play along with the other players around her.”

On the defense...

“Obviously we had a great deal of preoccupation with (Dominic) Seals and (Erin) Myrick, we think they are outstanding post players but I think Ashley and Marlies did tremendous jobs individually and as a group of post defenders. Shana Wheeler came in and played extremely well. I don’t think it was anything magical I just think they were very accountable and very attentive to those two players. I am not sure either of those two had their best night. You have to give credit to the individuals who were defending those two.”
