Texas A&M Quotes

Head Coach Mark Turgeon

Opening statement...

“I thought that K-State was unbelievable; the shots that they made, Bill Walker got it going and got their defense going for a little bit. I thought we were okay for about 25 minutes but what it comes down to is that our bigs (big men) can’t guard their bigs (big men). We were so inefficient, when we got to the foul line we didn’t step-up and make free throws. In the second half I thought that we could have built a four or five point lead early but we missed a lot of free throws. We have to get better at defense. We haven’t guarded well since league play started. We have to get more efficient on offense; we have a lot of guys not playing very well right now. Give K-State credit. I don’t know who could have beaten them today, they were pretty good.”

On K-State’s defense...

“They were quicker to the ball. We looked like quicksand compared to them. Where they were good was when they played one-on-one against our posts and they were giving up about 30 or 40 pounds on each player. I thought that was the difference because we got the ball right where we wanted but we didn’t make plays against their posts. It could have made a difference but I thought their defense did a good job.”

On K State’s Michael Beasley...

“He just makes it look so easy. It looks like he is moving in slow motion compared to everybody else. He was in foul trouble all night and never lost his rhythm and he draws fouls better than anybody that I’ve been around.”

Senior Guard Dominique Kirk

On second half defense...

“In the start of the second half we did pretty good, but then we just broke down on the defensive end. We didn’t compete hard enough to win this game.”

On the team’s sense of urgency...

“I think we’re trying to, but we get to a point where we loose concentration sometimes, and we don’t have that sense of urgency like we’re supposed to have. We’ve got to have it because that’s the only way we can win games.”

On Beasley and K-State...

“(Michael) Beasley is a great player. He’s the first pick in the first round of the NBA draft. He’s just a great player. We did our best scouting him and everything. He did a good job in the second half, plus we didn’t do so good in the second half of guarding not just him but everybody.”
