K-State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening statement...

“I think when we prepared for Colorado we knew we would be playing a team that is very efficient on the offensive end. I think they stood up to that. On the road it’s very impressive how efficient they are offensively. Jackie McFarland is just an unbelievably talented post presence, not just in the Big 12, but in the women’s game. She is an absolute handful for everyone in this league. Brittany Spears a tremendous game from her. We knew going in that Brittany was a great offensive rebounder and a great rebounder in general. This is a very talented basketball team. We are very excited about the win. I loved the competitive disposition that our team brought to the floor. When the game needed to change, Kimberly Dietz stepped up and really was that game-changing element in this basketball game from our perspective. Credit her on the day when she gets her 1,000-point ball. She just continues to rise up and make the big and the little plays that you can only dream of a senior making.”

On defending Jackie McFarland...

“Shana Wheeler, Marlies Gipson and really just our team defense did a much better job in the second half overall. We worked to limit those touches. I think we had a better feel for the Colorado offense. It’s just amazing in this league the difference from night to night and what you have to face. I do believe it takes some time to get a feel under your feet. It doesn’t matter how much you scout. I think it’s part of the challenge of this league. Great players like Jackie are going to find a way to score. When she made a three late in the game it was just an unbelievably tough shot. She never stops competing hard. She played 40 minutes. I do credit our team defense, but certainly Marlies, Ashley and Shana did a great job on the post.”

On playing a diverse game...

“I think one of the things that has helped us is our team has been disciplined about being diverse and bringing over the course of 40 minutes different looks to the game when it requires that. Late in the game we made great decisions, great passes, great catches and great finishes. These players have taken a lot of accountability in being diverse, changing things during the course of the game and making plays when necessary.”
