Kansas State Player Quotes

Senior Guard Clent Stewart

On the impact of today’s win...

“This is right up there with one of the biggest wins that I have been part of. They are a good team, they’re 15-3. They have played some good teams and have beaten some good teams. We believe we are a good team, especially at home. We were going to defend our home court. Guys were fired up coming off the win from Oklahoma and getting the chance to play Texas A&M here at home. We knew coming in that we were going to do whatever we needed to do in order to win the game at home.”

On the team’s defense...

“You can control defensively how you play, but you can’t control if the shots go in or not. At Oklahoma we made some shots but defensively I don’t think we played as well as we wanted to. Coming into this game Coach Martin told us we were going to have to play defense to beat these guys. They take great shots, which is why they shoot a very high percentage. We knew coming in that we were going to have to buckle down and play defense in the end if we wanted to win this game and that’s what we did. We made some shots, so it went according to plan for us.”

Freshman Forward Bill Walker

On the teams second half performance ...

“I don’t know how we did that, there were guys talking out there. That’s really all I can say about it. We have been doing the principles for a long time but it was just a matter of getting out there and doing what Coach Martin says. This should be convincing. We are trying to mind our P’s and Q’s to start this Big 12 season off right.”

Freshman Forward Michael Beasley

On his early foul trouble...

“Coach Martin is a smart man; I didn’t need any more fouls. I picked up two stupid fouls and Coach was playing me in and out. I didn’t want to get any more fouls but I didn’t want him to sit me and get stiff because then I wouldn’t be helping in the second half either. I thought that was a really smart move by Coach Martin.”
