A Message From Athletics Director Bob Krause

Wildcat Nation,

I felt it was important to take time and speak directly to the Wildcat Family concerning a recent article published in the Topeka Capital Journal.

It is clear that athletics departments at BCS institutions across the nation are caught up in an arms race.

At Kansas State, we have to be deliberate with our resources. Our focus and attention is on providing our student-athletes, coaches and programs with the best opportunity to compete for championships and to direct our funds to this cause, rather than on administrative salaries. In retrospect, agreeing to a 10-year administrative contract with Tim Weiser was probably not in the best interest of Kansas State University.

However, even with the mutually agreed upon settlement with Weiser upon his resignation, no new monies have been allocated for this purpose. All funds for the settlement, as well as my current salary as athletics director which ranks among the lowest in the Big 12, were previously budgeted as part of the athletics director’s total compensation. In fact, once the obligation of the separation agreement is fulfilled, there will be additional funds that can then be redeployed to help us achieve our goals of competing for championships.

It is important to also note that we are operating on a balanced budget. We, as a department, are focused on moving forward.

We value your support of K-State Athletics and know that your continued dedication and involvement is vital for our success.

Sincerely,

Bob Krause
Athletics Director
