Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening statement...

“We are excited about this victory. I thought, defensively, we brought a great effort to the floor. Obviously, it is critical, when you play against Iowa State, that you have to be great about defending their threes. But I think it is tougher on the road to be effective with your three-point shots. Defensively, I thought that we were good on the three-ball. We rebounded the ball well tonight which was important to us, especially after coming off of the Colorado game. We made a big point of effort to stay on the boards. I thought that our team stepped up and really did a great job there. I definitely want to complement Marlies Gipson. I thought early in the game and in the second half she was tremendous on the boards. She showed off that strength and athleticism to score that was very key in establishing our aggressiveness on the court.”

On three-point shots...

“When Iowa State and K-State play, you know it is likely that you are going to get a fair number of threes. Tonight I wasn’t sure if we were going to see a majority of zone or man (defense) from Iowa State. We saw both, but I think our team played well together on the offensive end. We shot the ball very well from the three-point line. I think that we are evolving into a team that understands the best shot every possession and we made good decisions tonight. We really understood where those shots were coming and we were very effective.”
