Coach Deb Patterson Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening Statement...

“We are excited to get another Big 12 victory against a Nebraska team that has been decimated by injuries. I think Cory (Montgomery) was blue collar tonight and played a great basketball game. On our end of the floor, I’m just really proud that our team came out in the second half and made a lot of good adjustments. We had a lot of perimeter players that really stepped up big in the second half for us. Our team defense, I thought, was very good tonight. Ashley Sweat just had a tremendous game. She has a great balance to her game. She has consistently asserted herself as a presence. It was a good game to play around Ashley (Sweat). Out team is learning that there are a lot of different ways to win basketball games, and it was certainly nice to see players like Shalin Spani step up, come off the bench, and be a big factor. This was great victory for our basketball team. We know how hard wins are to get in the Big 12. We are excited to get another one at home.”

On differences between the first and second half...

“I think it took us a while; I’m not sure on the offensive end that the play calls contributed to us being the best we could be. We went in at half time and kind of analyzed what had gone well, what hadn’t, and we were determined to come out in the second half with a little different approach offensively. I thought we played fairly good defense in the first half but I thought in the second half, we really brought another level of intensity and understanding to how Nebraska wanted to play. I thought our guards locked down on a much higher level. I just liked the overall adjustments we made.”

On what was said in the locker room at halftime...

“It was more decisions and play calls. We were really dribble-oriented. You saw us pounding the ball inside a lot. Nebraska had committed to diving in on our dribble. I think our players made great adjustments once we addressed it and talked about it. We changed the nature of how we wanted to play and the decisions we wanted to make. We got better and I think we got more aggressive with the pass and the cuts. We also had perimeter players like Kari (Kincaid) and (Shalin) Spani.”
