Kansas Coach Quotes

Head Coach Bill Self

Opening statement...

“K-State was just a better team than we were tonight. You could say offensively or defensively. Pullen was terrific, their defense was good but we still shot an excellent percentage. We got fed up though. It was one of those atmospheres where that could easily occur. I don’t know if you can pinpoint one thing other than, of the 50-50 balls they got 70 to 80 percent of them. They scored an awful lot off of loose balls and that is something we are usually pretty good at but we weren’t tonight.”

On Michael Beasley...

“I think we could have guarded him better. We could have guarded him better but he still may have scored as many points because maybe we would have fouled him more. It’s a hard matchup for anybody if you play big on him because if he goes four-for-four from three, he was terrific in the second half, just fabulous. I thought Bill got them off to a really good start in the first half.”

On his team’s foul troubles...

“You want to be able to play with your full complement of guys. We didn’t become a better team with those guys on the bench. But we’ve got good enough players to step up. We didn’t lose the game in the first half, we lost it in the first ten minutes of the second half.”

On how well his team played...

“I don’t think that we played real well but I think they are the reason why we didn’t play well. I thought they were a good team tonight. They’re guard play was excellent, we didn’t make them turn the ball over. The way the game started off, we gave that team confidence. It also put our team on our heels because we wanted to be aggressive and they played behind our aggressiveness and made shots. They kind of had us on our heels defensively. You’ve got to give K-State credit. Saying that we were bad tonight would take away from how well they performed. I don’t think we were good but I think they were a big reason why.”
