Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Kansas State Head Coach Bob Huggins

On changing the tempo late in the game...

“I think we changed the tempo a little bit with the zone. Before that I think they scored eight consecutive times. I think that kind of changed the tempo a little bit. We just made some shots. Cartier (Martin) made two big threes for us and Blake (Young) hit a big shot for us.  I thought Dave (Hoskins) played really strongly in the second half, Jason (Bennett) blocked a couple shots and honestly, they missed a couple of front ends.”

On close games...

“What I tell them is if you’re going to work as hard as we work, you might as well win.’ If you don’t put the time in that we do and the preparation and be accountable as we’re going to make you accountable (you’re not going to win). We couldn’t get a defensive stop early in the year when we needed one. I think, by and large, when we need a basket we can at least get the kind of shot that we want to get. I think that’s part of accountability.”

On Cartier Martin...

“Cartier played well. I wasn’t sure that he was going to play. He banged his knee in shoot-around. He was out there kind of hobbling around, but I think he came out and played really well. That may be as complete a game as Cartier has played since I’ve been here.”

On David Hoskins...

“We were able to get him isolated a little more tonight. He made shots tonight on the perimeter so they had to come out on him. When he makes perimeter shots, he’s hard to guard because you can’t put a big guy on him and stand back off of him. When you put a smaller guy on him, he overpowers them with his body. He’s a hard match-up when he makes shots but he has to make some out there before they come out and cover him.”
