Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening statement...

“I felt like this is just a game in which Baylor played well, and we really just played really poorly. Consequently, we were dominated in all phases of the game. We just flat out did not play well. Baylor played well, and we were beaten soundly by a team that came into our arena and played good basketball. We were very flat. I don’t know if there was any element of the game that we competed well. “

On K-State...

“I think the best two players on the court tonight were Marlies Gipson and (Kimberly) Dietz. We were playing so poorly that we never really established who needed the ball and where. It’s hard to look at individual performances so to speak, because we really just didn’t compete in this game well. I really don’t think we did. I think Baylor played good. I don’t think they played great. I think they played good. I think they took advantage of the fact that we didn’t play well. I felt like the two most effective players on the floor for us were Marlies and Kimberly, and we didn’t necessarily put them in positions to make plays. We really did not play our basketball.”

On if she knows why K-State didn’t play well...

“No, who can say why, but we really didn’t. I just didn’t think we played well. I think Baylor played well enough to get the win. They looked ready, and they played to their strengths. They just took advantage of a team that really wasn’t really on their game tonight. I just felt like we weren’t really on our game tonight, period. I don’t have a lot of solutions to it, except to say that individually and collectively, we never really established the elements of the game that have made us great to this point.”

On what Baylor did to slow down K-State...

“I think we played pretty passive tonight. I think Baylor is a very good basketball team, and they did what they had to do to win this basketball game. We didn’t play well. I’m not enamored by any given element of this basketball game, except that they, quite frankly, out-competed us and played harder and played smarter. I don’t care about their length and their size. I don’t really think those elements are significant as just, as a team, obviously competing. For whatever reason, we were just very, very flat. They’re on the road. It’s in a tough environment. They didn’t blink an eye, and they played well.”

On if this is a good time for a week off...

“I’d rather play a game tomorrow, actually. But that’s not the reality. So we’ll sit down for a week and prepare for KU. And obviously rivalry games are really unique in what they bring. But I’d just assume we have a game tomorrow.”
