Iowa State Quotes

Head Coach Greg McDermott

On their offense...

“The encouraging thing is that we made two runs in the second half even with their (K-State’s) crowd in the game.  We got back in it and then it seemed like we’d either break down on the defensive end or have a poor decision on the offensive end of the floor. Our defense was good enough to win for the most part. We just have to find a way to score points. It’s not Craig’s (Brackins) or Diante’s (Garrett) fault. I’m proud of the way we started the game. We had some break downs where we turned it over and let them back into the game. There is no way we should have gone into the halftime locker room behind, but their offense was non-existent at the end of the first half.”

On their rebounding...

“When you shoot 32 percent, there is a lot of defensive rebounds to be had.  Because of their (K-State’s) ability to score in transition, we were going to get back and try to take away that from them, so that gives them a lot of rebounds. We should have had more than five offensive rebounds when you miss more than 30 shots.”

On K-States offense...

“We didn’t get them cut off the way we needed to get them cut off. We went into some triangle-two and some zone defenses to try and change it up but they did a good job of adjusting to that. They made a lot of plays off the dribble which shots because they only had seven assists.”

Forward Craig Brackins

On his frustration tonight...

“I was frustrated. I let the referees get to me a little bit. I started rushing shots and going back to my old ways. I felt really bad for my team because of how I was reacting.”

On how bad they need a win...

“It would finally be a relief, but we know we could have won most of these games. I feel like we’re playing hard right not, but we’re just not finishing.”

Guard Diante Garrett

On his poor shooting night...

“Some of the more easy shots that I usually make weren’t falling for me tonight. I’m just going to keep working on it in the gym more.”

On their offense ...

“We got a little winded. I think that’s kind of our problem sometimes. They would go on a little run and we would back down a little bit, then we would score a little bit and get back into our flow. We just need to get better on scoring, scoring, scoring.”

On needing a win...

“We are just really ready to win. We just have to keep working at it so we can get these wins.”
