Coach Patterson Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening Statement...

“It was just another great Big 12 women’s basketball game. I thought both teams battled extremely hard. You could tell this was going to be a battle possession by possession. Ashley Sweat, I thought, was just tremendous both on the boards and from the free throw line. She made a lot of big plays and big shots in critical game situations and I think that’s what separated us a little bit. I think that last minute and a half of the game, we were able to put some people on the line and make shots.”

On offensive drought in the first half...

“I think it was a combination of both.  We got to a pretty comfortable margin, which there really never is one in the Big 12. When we went to our bench, we got a little bit of a lull which I thought we should have played through before we made any more changes. More than anything, I think that’s something we’re working to address not allowing ourselves to go through long offensive drives. At the same time, I felt like we were getting good looks but just not finishing. Missouri, I thought, played with great aggressiveness after the first five minutes of the game. They are so big and physical, and I thought they played very hard.”

On their offense...

“I think we are still a work in progress. The last two games have really brought back to the table our work in progress and that’s what February basketball in the Big 12 is supposed to do. We have said it all along that we are not a dominant team in any given area. I think we are close to being better offensively. I think we were a little bit better offensively last week, and I thought we were okay on offense tonight. I think one thing that we need to continue to address is playing more consistently. Tonight, and in the last few games we’ve played, we haven’t been that consistent in finishing plays.”
