Nebraska Quotes

Head Coach Doc Sadler
Opening Statement...
“I think we got in trouble offensively in the first half when we came in here and thought we were going to out score them. Our whole deal was to come in, slow it down and mix up the defenses. One of their strengths is offensive rebounding and it is one of our weaknesses we knew we had to work hard to limit that part of the game. In the second half we followed our plan better. Going into the game we thought that the one thing we could make them do is defend. They’re so explosive offensively we knew we couldn’t stop them, so we had to do something on the other end to slow them down.”

On Michael Beasley...
“We tried a box and one, triangle and two, and a zone. That’s something we haven’t done all year. I thought we did a nice job with it, but we didn’t finish off with rebounding. I don’t know how many points he had, seems like 6 or 8 but in reality he had 30. He didn’t force a thing. That’s what a great player does. You can’t stop him, nobody can.”

Sophomore Guard Sek Henry
On Nebraska’s second half comeback...
“We tried really hard just to try and get back in the game, because in the first half we got down 15 and we just needed to keep fighting and see what happened.”

On the box and one defense on Beasley...
“I think it worked pretty well but they were still able to get offensive rebounds and they are like in the top five in rebounds in the country. That kind of hurt us because we are a small team.”

On Nebraska’s play in the second half...
“The first half I think we were a little out of control and in the second half we tried to make Kansas State try and play defense. We started to get some open baskets. They had a whole lot of offensive rebounds. It would have been a whole lot closer and we might have won if we would have rebounded better.”

Freshman Guard Cookie Miller
On Nebraska’s first half play...
“In the first half we didn’t do anything right. In the second half we came out with more energy. We actually started using the shot clock and in the first half we were shooting 25 and 30 seconds left on the clock. That made us play more defense and allowed them to rest.”

On guarding Bill Walker...
“I think we did a good job on him. That’s Bill Walker, he is probably going to be a first round draft pick. It’s hard to stop those kinds of guys. We should have pressured Beasley more. He got off to a good start and that is what hurt us.”
