Kansas State Player Quotes

Freshman Point Guard Jacob Pullen

On the start to the game...

“I was open. They doubled down on Mike (Beasley) and when he had to pass he kicked it out to me for the shot. I’m still trying to make up for Clent (Stewart). Those are just some things that Clint does. He guarantees some three’s every game so I have to pick up the slack a little bit until he comes back for this next road game we got. When we pick up him (Clent Stewart) and Andre (Gilbert) we’ll be back at full strength.”

On what he has learned most from Clent Stewart...

“A lot of little things. Clent has been in the Big 12 for four years, so a lot of little things like what they are going to give you at home, hand checks, and just little things that you can get away with. He told me today to just go out there and just play. Just play basketball.”

On coming together...

“That’s basically what we’re doing, we’re coming together as a team. When were at away games now and we get down we get in a huddle and everyone is like 'come on, let’s go, pick it up.' We’re just focusing and we are all clicking, we know where everyone is at, if someone penetrates and they collapse some one is going to be in the corner to pass to for the shot.”

Freshman Forward Michael Beasley

On having Clent Stewart here today...

“It was real special. To know what he is going through with his family and his mom and for him to still be with us is real special. That just shows how strong Clent is. He told us he might be coming today but I didn’t believe him because I wouldn’t come given the circumstances. It just shows how much Clent cares about the team. We’re family, we’re not a basketball team. We’re bothers, the coaching staff we are just one big family and that’s how we have to play.”

On an emotional 24 hours...

“It was emotional with what we went through last night but we knew we had to come out and play, not only for us but for her (Vanessa Stewart). We just came and played for her basically and for Clent.”

On the last two games and how important it was to have a good second half...

“It was what Coach wanted. We came out and had a 15 point lead and it was down to five by halftime so coach kind of jumped on us and told us we have to stop playing like boys when we get a lead. So we just came out and played like men and defended as a team.”

On approaching the tournaments...

“I think we can do it, I think we can be champions. I think we can win this tournament and the next one. We just got to keep playing like we are playing.”
