Oklahoma State Quotes

Head Coach Sean Sutton

Opening Statement...

“They just whipped us. They were tougher than we were tonight. They showed their ability to get the offensive rebounds. I don’t ever remember one of our teams giving up that many offensive rebounds. We had too many turnovers. The three biggest keys we talked about if we wanted to win this game were that we had to be tough. We had to match their physicality and we did not do that. We tried to keep them off the offensive glass but obviously we didn’t do a very good job there. And then we knew we couldn’t turn the ball over a lot. We were making bad decisions. Our guards just committed too many turnovers.”

On K-State forwards Bill Walker and Michael Beasley...

“It’s just a matter of making a decision on when they want to go out. Beasley should be a top-5 pick and Walker would be a top-15. They’re both explosive, they can score and they’re very difficult to match up with.”

On staying close going into the break...

“I felt good at halftime. I felt like we were in good position to keep it close and win the game. We didn’t play particularly well, we were down 16 but cut it down to 5. But right off the bat they went right to Walker then we went over to Obi (Muonelo) and he missed a relatively easy shot in the paint. Then we went down with consecutive turnovers and that really set the tone for the second half. We just got off to a bad start.”

On K-State guard Jacob Pullen...

”He hit four three’s early. He’s good and he plays with a lot of confidence. I think he was shooting 26 percent from the three-point line coming in and we were going to play off of him at times to get some help on Beasley. He made us pay. He hit four big threes early.”

On K-State guard Clent Stewart...

“I told him that there were a lot of people praying for him. I know that this is a very difficult time in his life and I just wanted him to know that he’s got a lot of people thinking about him and a lot of support.”

Junior Guard Terrel Harris

On defending against K-State...

”They were hard to match up with. They put Beasley at the bottom and use Walker as support. It was hard to go at them because our four-man defense has to go through Beasley. It really hurt us down low. Other than to guard, we turned the ball over too much. We need to come back and rebound. Secondly, we weren’t rebounding, we weren’t playing tough. It messed us up.”

On Coach Sutton pulling players after mistakes...

“If we worked on it in the pregame and say don’t do this’ and you go out and do it, you’re going to get yanked. If it’s a mistake that could have gone the other way, then you’re probably not going to be pulled. A turnover is a turnover; a bad play is a bad play and you’re going to get yanked.”
