Frank Martin Quotes

Coach Frank Martin

Overall thoughts on the game...

“Give them credit. I never like to take away from the other team when the other team plays well and makes shots. Defensively we were very similar to what we did against Texas Tech the other night, and that’s what I told the team. We stopped defending them. We had some bad breakdowns on location but they need to be given credit too. They made the right passes, they made the right plays. Morningstar jumped up and made some threes which got them back in the game and gave them life. In the second half, I thought we played hard, defended better again, and at the end of the game again we decided to start fouling. Our defense let us down.”

On KU’s defense...

“It’s not the triangle and two that took us out of sync, it just seems like they were on the foul line at every possession. I have said before I don’t care what defense the other team plays it is hard to score from a set defense. We had a game plan; we wanted to attack the triangle and two. There are times we did it right and there are times we didn’t.

On attacking KU’s defense...

That’s the challenge with young kids.  It’s to get them to perform in games in front of 13,000 people and noise and everything along the same lines that you do in practice. Our thought process and how we wanted to attack it, we kind of got away from that and I changed that because I thought we weren’t getting what we needed out of the way we were going and I needed to get Denis (Clemente) and Jake (Pullen) involved in the offense. We made an adjustment but I thought we made it too late."
