Kansas State Player Quotes

Senior Forward Cartier Martin

On K-State’s play in the second half tonight...

“We just felt like we needed to come out in the second half and not let them hang around. They have some guys that can hit shots. You saw what they did with that 20 point lead, turning it into a 12 point lead. We just could not let them hang around, so we had to come out and be the aggressors.”

On K-State’s play compared to the Nebraska game...

“I think that everyone knew what they were supposed to do, and they knew what their teammates were supposed to do. With that said, I think that the guys just had a better mind-set coming into tonight’s game, knowing what we had at stake.”

On having the home crowd this time against Kansas...

“I think that the crowd will definitely be loud, and them being for us will be a plus. We are looking forward to the game, we just need to bring energy and execute on both ends of the floor.”

Senior Guard Akeem Wright

On the team’s defense to start the second half...

“It was key for us because we wanted to come out and pressure them and get in their passing lanes. We forced a lot of steals and we were able to get some easy transition buckets that opened up the lead. From there they were a little hesitant with their passes and they were not able to run their offense as smoothly. That helped us get that double-digit lead and we just went from there.”

On the play of David Hoskins...

“We started to run the offense a little better and he was making some good cuts. Our guys found him, and a couple of times he had the big guys on him and he saw the opportunity to drive it and he took advantage of it. He’s a quick guard, people have to play him honest because he can hit the shot, and he can get to the basket.”

On the last meeting with KU and preparing for Monday...

“Things went poorly, but we just didn’t execute on offense as well as we should have. We didn’t play defense at all. We just got to look at some film, study it more, and when the game comes bring it to them in the opening minutes. They got off to a huge lead and were not able to get back from that. We just have to come out with a lot of energy and be ready to play.”

Junior Forward David Hoskins

On his play to end the first half, and to start the second half...

“In the beginning we were just trying to figure out what kind of defense they were playing, and figure out how to exploit their defense. I just felt like I needed to be more aggressive, I don’t feel like I need to take over or anything like that.”

On the losses to Kansas at home...

“It seems like it is a tradition to lose. People expect Kansas State to lose but I think that this year is a little different. The fans are going in expecting us to win, and we expect to win.”
