Kansas State quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening statement ...
"I think this was a microcosm of the way our team has competed. There were two personalities in our basketball team between the first and second half. Oklahoma would say the same. In the second half, we could not ask for a better situation. We got really passive and tentative on the offensive end of the floor and did not rebound with the same assertiveness. For every mistake we made, Oklahoma capitalized. We got back on our heels and you cannot do that against a Top 15 team."

On the first half ...
"I thought our first half was solid. We played smart and had a good presence. We defended and rebounded the ball well as a team. I think we are capable of continuing those types of things when we are pressured, but for whatever reason tonight, we did not."

On the Pink Zone day ...
"It was great to see our fans wearing pink. I would also like to thank our sponsors. It means a lot, not just to our program, but to the cause (breast cancer awareness). Women's basketball has done a great job bringing attention and ultimately money, to breast cancer awareness.  "

Senior Forward Ashley Sweat
On the second half breakdown...
"I think it goes back to us getting on our heels. I think if I had to describe it, that it was more of a tale of two halves. We were the aggressor in the first half and we were getting any look we wanted. We started out the game aggressive and put them on their heels. They were not expecting that. To come out in the second half and be the passive team, that was frustrating. That is on us, that is something that is so fixable, but it is just something we have to do. It's not something in the past couple of games we've proven we can do."

On the team's mentality...
"This is all about mental toughness. We need to look at the first half and see what we did. We need to look at how we picked apart their defense and how well we played together and how we had five committed players. In the second half it was like a cycle. We have got to come out and play, the first five minutes is so important. Once they scored two baskets it was still a 15-point lead you would have thought it was a two-point game. We were already back on our heels and that is something we cannot let happen. "

On this weekend's reunion...
"It was cool, last night we had a reunion and we got to meet with players. Some brought their old warm-up jackets and old pictures of their teams. I think it is something that you look at what we have now and just appreciate it so much more. Coach Patterson has built such a great program and I think you can see that in the people who were there. They were great basketball players, but even better people. It was nice to be around those kinds of people who started it all."
