Iowa State Quotes

Iowa State Head Coach Bill Fennelly

On his overall thoughts of the game...

“I think there were some question marks about our ability and resilience on going on the road. We showed a lot of character tonight. I thought we defended great in the second half. We made some huge plays. We held them to 21 points in the second half. It’s obviously a very tough environment, so I am very proud of our team. We played with the determination and enthusiasm that we play with at home. This group of young people is learning a lot of things about themselves and I think they are learning a lot of good things about themselves. So, I am very proud of them today, very proud.”

On K-State’s defense...

“They did a great job of defending Nicky (Wieben) in the post. Nicky’s been someone that’s been really good for us. We couldn’t get her the ball in the right spots, sometimes that’s just good defense. She had some foul trouble which never let her get in the flow of the game. I think their defensive game plan showed that they were really going to do a great job of working Nicky in the post.”

On any doubts about the outcome of the game...

“The only thing that I was worried about was when it was 42-39 for a long time. I really felt like we got to halftime and we were still in the game. When it was 42-39 I thought we were starting to defend a little better. They missed a couple of free throws. We had I think seven possessions and didn’t really get a good look at the basket. That was the time that I felt like we were really struggling. That was when I was thinking that this was our chance and we were letting it slip away.”

Senior Guard/Forward Megan Ronhovde
On her clutch shooting late in the second half...

“I think that when you have been playing as much as Lindsey (Medders) and I have together, we both have confidence in each other. She told me to not worry about it and that I would get the next one. Honestly as soon as she kicked the ball to me and I released it, I knew it was going in. We’ve been doing this for so long together. I think it says a lot about the camaraderie and the character of our team. This is a big win for us, especially on the road.”

Senior Guard Lyndsey Medders

On their winning streak...

“We’re not satisfied yet. We can’t say that the highlight of our season was winning 3 games in a row at home and beating K-State on the road. Now for us we need to get home quick and enjoy tonight, but tomorrow and the next couple of days we need to get ready for Texas Tech. I think the big thing for us is that we need to keep this momentum going.”
