Kansas State Quotes
Head Coach Frank Martin
“They’re good. I told Rick (Barnes) after the game, that’s the way I’ve always seen your team guard. I’ve followed his career since I was a young coach and his teams have always been known for their physical defensive play. He just told me it’s taken (them) two years to get back to that, but he feels like they’re back to playing the way his team’s have been playing for 25 years or however long he’s been coaching. They’re big, they’re so darn big. They’re long and they pressure you. They’re a good team.”
On K-State’s first half defense...
“They just stayed the course. We missed some chippies, that just kind of happens. Give Connor Atchley some credit, give (A.J.) Abrams some credit. That’s why they’re the first place team in this league, they didn’t get discouraged, they kept playing. Abrams finally got some looks, put them down, and Atchley where I though the game cost us halfway through the second half we stopped rebounding the ball on the defensive end. I thought we had done a real good job of that early in the game and we stopped doing it and they got some put backs. That kind of took the wind out of our sails.”
“Maybe a minute before that we’re put four or five points. Whatever that run was, you can add another four or five points to it. It was plain and simple we lost (A.J.) Abrams on back-to-back plays coming out of timeouts and he made two threes. Then (Connor) Atchley got some offensive rebounds, got some put backs. Bottom line is in the second half they shot 56 percent from the field. That’s two games in a row that defensively we didn’t do our jobs in the second half.”
Freshman Forward Michael Beasley
“Like Coach (Martin) said, they’ve been playing better than any team in the country. They are a good team. They defend. They have a whole army. We played our hearts out we just didn’t come up with the win.”
On Texas’ players...
“They have everything we want ball pressure, big bodies, shot blockers. They have everything you need.”
