K-State Quotes

Head Coach Frank Martin
On the team's first-half performance...
"I thought we played well but we just did not make shots. I thought we got the shots we wanted, I thought we passed the ball well, except for the turnover we had on the second possession of the game on the outlet pass, we took care of the ball. We went down and got the shots we wanted; we just did not make any of them. But I was happy with how we played. I was happy at halftime, when it was tied. For as good as we were on offense, we just did not make shots. Being tied, I was pleased."

On the team's resiliency ...
"It is the difference between our team now and our team at the beginning of this season, last year and the year before. We are going to play hard, that is not an option for our team. So we are going to play hard. What affected us was when we have nights like tonight, where we miss shots, it affected our spirit and then we would have the breakdowns and for the most part, we did not do that today. We were able to stay the course and then in the second half, we made some shots and got a little separation, but our defense never really suffered."

On if this was the best defensive performance of the year...
"We just went on the road for back-to-back games and held one team to 37 percent and the other to 34 percent on the road. It is Big 12 basketball -- all the teams have good players and we have been pretty good on defense. I was proud of our guys. I thought we fouled a little too much tonight but still we played hard."

Junior Guard, Jacob Pullen
On the first half...
"We never lost focus. We knew we were not making shots, so we had to make stops. I think as a team we did a great job of not bailing out on our defense. Usually when a team is not shooting the ball well, they mellow out on defense. I think our team did a great job in realizing that our defense was the only way to keep us in it and our defense gave us some easy offense, which helped us get back into the game and tie it up at halftime."

On the offensive struggles...
"We understood that our defense is what kept us in the first half. I do not think we were taking bad shots. I do not think we were forcing shots. We were taking good shots and moving the ball well, it just was not going into the basket. When we have nights like that, we have to find a way to score the ball and that is where Jamar (Samuels) and Curtis (Kelly) really stepped up and helped us in the second half."

Sophomore Forward, Jamar Samuels
On halftime...
"He (Frank Martin) said that we were playing well. Our defense was really helping us out and he said we just had to make shots because we were not making any shots in the first half. Luckily, we started hitting shots in the second half. Now it looks like we are a second half team and I have no problem being that. I only scored two points in the first half, then in the second half we all came out strong."
