Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening Statement...

“I thought that was an outstanding performance by Texas A&M. I was pleased with our performance in the second half, significantly more than the first half. Texas A&M, in every situation where they needed to hit a shot, had players step up and hit the shot they needed. What was particularly impressive tonight was the performance of Sidney Carter. You have to think if Starks is around 15 points and Gant is under double figures that you might have a shot to be in the basketball game, but Sidney was obviously the difference for them tonight. The first half was just a struggle for us because their defense was terrific and our offense was not on par with a top-ten team.”

On whether the offense or defense was off today...

”It think it was a combination of both. We were not very good offensively and stood around which made us give up a lot on the offensive side of the floor. Texas A&M is a real strong and athletic basketball team and it seemed like we played right into their hands. It really took us 20 minutes to gather ourselves and begin to find opportunities to exploit their defense. It was too little too late even thought I felt we made a good run at it early in the second half.”

On what the outlook will be for the coming week...

“We just have to take it day by day in practice and try to develop some consistency. I think that is something that we are working at and we see flashes of it and there are minutes where we play to the level we are capable of, we just don’t have the consistency. In this league you can not have stretches were no player steps up and makes a play. The turnover number tonight was really frustrating and probably the difference. Right now we are just playing parts of the game and the only thing we know to do is to keep working at it.”

Shalee Lehning, Guard
On what her mindset was early in the game when Texas A&M was up 17...

“You just have to focus on that next possession. We threw away too many possessions in a row. We just have to think about getting a bucket to cut it to 15 then concentrate on getting it to 13. We don’t focus on the 17 points, it is always about the next possession.”

On how she feels she is progressing from a health stand point ...

“I get better each day. That is the good and the positive about it. I am obviously not 100 percent and there are still some things that I need to get better at. I am just going to keep praying that I get better and healthier each day.”
