Oklahoma Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Jeff Capel
On Oklahoma’s first half deficit...

“We crawled back in the second half, but not in the first half. Everything we talked about in preparation for this game K-State did. We talked to our guys about getting the ball off the backboard and in the first half K-State had six offensive rebounds and out rebounded us 19-9. We have to get better at starting basketball games. I thought our energy was a little better in the second half. We have five days to thing about those things and start preparing for those things. Hopefully, we will be better at the Big 12 tournament.”

On Cartier Martin...

“He is great. He is a pro. He is a guy that played with a determination tonight. He is a senior at his last game here. He has had a great career but also he played hungry. He is a guy that has never been to the NCAA Tournament and you could tell that he sensed that for his team in his last year here. He played like he was not going to allow his team to lose. He got his team off to a great start, challenged them defensively, rebounding, making shots. He is a tough player to guard because he can dribble, pass, shoot, he has great size, good athleticism and a great feel for the game. I think that he is one of the better players in the league and I have thought that all along.”

On K-State NCAA Tournament chances...

“I think they are (an NCAA Tournament team). They defend at a high level. They have one of the better players in college basketball in Cartier Martin and one of the better coaches in college basketball. Their track record of 21 wins and 10 Big 12 wins and have beaten some good teams including winning at Texas. Our league is good enough to get a minimum of four teams in the tournament. I do believe that Kansas State is one of the best 65 teams in the country.”

Junior Guard David Godbold
On the teams play to start the game...

“In the beginning of the game everyone just wasn’t on the same page. To get out of this losing streak we are going to have to get all five guys on the same page.”

On Cartier Martin’s play...

“He played really good. I knew that he was going to come out and play good on senior night. I have seen him for three years now. He came out and played strong and led his team.”

On the end of the 1st half...

“It was our man-to-man defense. Everyone was just letting their man get by them. No one was helping on the weak side, so our man defense was just bad.”

Senior Guard Nate Carter
On the run in the second half...

“We fought them. In the first half we did not battle, in the second half we battled and tried to get the ball inside. We played aggressive and tried to get to the line.”
