Wildcats of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. Carter Jurica of the Wildcat baseball team and Shalee Lehning of the K-State women's basketball team are this week's Wildcats of the Week, announced Tuesday by the Kansas State Athletic Department.

Carter Jurica, Infielder, So., Katy, Texas

 

Sophomore second baseman Carter Jurica recorded a stellar week for the Wildcats, who went 5-0 last week. Jurica went 12-for-19 (.632) with four doubles and four RBI to raise his average 164 points from .258 to .422. He was also perfect at the plate to cap his weekend as he went 3-for-3 on Saturday and 4-for-4 on Sunday. The sophomore tallied 16 total bases in his 19 at-bats, good for a .842 slugging percentage. He also stole three bases, worked two walks and did not strike out.

 

The Katy, Texas, native was on fire in K-State’s day-night doubleheader on Friday against Niagara. In the afternoon game, Jurica went 1-for-3 with one run scored. In the nightcap, Jurica tallied a 3-for-4 game with a pair of doubles, the first of which came in the first inning to bring home the Wildcats’ first run of the night.

 

Jurica was back at it again on Saturday as he was a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. On Sunday, Jurica recorded a hit in all four at-bats the last two being doubles while he drove in one run and scored three against the Purple Eagles in the series finale.

Shalee Lehning registered her fifth career triple-double and moved into second place on the Big 12 career assist list, as K-State registered a home win over No. 15/16 Texas and a school record 10th road win in the regular season finale at Colorado. Lehning’s performance came two weeks after she returned from a three-week bout with mononucleosis. For the week, Lehning averaged 13.5 points on a .714 field goal percentage, 9.0 rebounds, 9.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.5 steals.

 

The All-American candidate tallied her school and Big 12 record third triple-double this season with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, 11 rebounds, 12 assists, two blocks and a steal. With her 12 assists on Saturday, Lehning passed Stacey Dales of Oklahoma for second in Big 12 history for career assists with 771. Lehning started her week with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 39 minutes of action against No. 15/16 Texas. The 39 minutes played on Wednesday night was her highest total since Jan. 31 at Iowa State, before she was diagnosed with mono.
