Head Coach Bob Huggins Quotes

On the win...
“This time of year when you win, it’s good. That means you keep playing. (Vermont) is a good team and it’s good to beat a good team when you can’t make a shot. Akeem (Wright) was fantastic. Akeem was very good at both ends of the floor on a day when Cartier (Martin) couldn’t make a shot, Dave (Hoskins) couldn’t make a shot and Lance (Harris) couldn’t make a shot. It’s nice to be able to shoot as poorly as we did and still win a game. (Akeem) was with no question the MVP of the game.”

On K-State's tough shooting night...
“We didn’t make any shots and (Vermont) hit their shots. They ran their flex and some specials out of that flex. Their guys had the same shots our guys had, but they made them. We just didn’t make any. They hit some free throws and we didn’t make any. If we hadn’t scored off of our defense you know that’s how we scored the ball. We had to score with our defense.”

On the team...
“We don’t want to go out like that. My goal for this team from day one, and I told them this day one, is that I want these people to be remembered as the ones who got this thing started. These are the people that are going to be known as the ones who turned K-State basketball around. For us to have the year we have, and then come in here and lose in the first round of the NIT that’s hard. That’s no the way they want to go out and not the way they want to be remembered. We played that way. Cartier couldn’t hit a shot and he had great looks. These guys got him great looks, but he couldn’t make any today. Lance was out there just trying to hit the rim. We scored everything off of our defense. (Akeem) was the key to that defense. When Blake (Young) and Jermaine (Maybank) got in there, they got their hands on the ball and knocked some down. Darren Kent did a great job. DK really did a great job when he came in.”
