Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Southern Illinois at Kansas State

Kansas State Head Coach Deb Patterson

On the play of Kari Kincaid...

“Kari was just terrific. I think she fed off the energy that our starting group brought to the floor. I loved her aggressiveness to the rim. She had that nice step-through move, she was committed to getting to the rim, she didn’t settle for three pointers, she was very tough when she was defended outside on the perimeter; it was a very good aggressive night for her. What I really loved about her game is that she defended very well which is an area that I was hoping for some improvement. Her numbers were great, offensively, that was terrific but she also brought consistent defensive play. I thought Kari did a great job on both ends”

Senior Guard Claire Coggins

On getting back on track offensively...

“Coach Patterson talked about how we brought a lot of energy to the court and everybody fed off everybody else’s energy. We area team that still hasn’t given up through everything we’ve faced. We’ve been very thrilled to be able to host the WNIT and to be able to play in it and we are going to compete as hard and as well as we possibly can and we’re excited about it. We came out tonight ready to go; we haven’t played in a week and a half. That’s hard on an athlete when you love to play the game to not play for that long but we came out ready to go and we’re excited for Thursday now”

Freshman Forward Ashley Sweat

On her inside play...

“The coaches have been telling us that we have got to make strong aggressive moves and we can’t go and just through it up there and hope it goes in. We’ve been working on that and we’ve had a lot of guard-post breakdown in practice, which has helped the posts a lot and the guards too. Just having such a small group working together in practice really helps a lot”

On ending the six game losing streak...

“It’s really nice especially after losing that many games at the end of the season. Sometimes you forget what it’s like and then you get a win like this and it gives us so much more power going into the rest of the tournament.”
