Illinois State Quotes

Head Coach Tim Jankovich

On returning to KSU...

“The great part for me is just seeing so many people. I got here last night and it is unbelievable to me how many people have found a way to call me, text me, or bump into me. I have to tell you that it is a little overwhelming. It is very special from a coming-home standpoint.”

On what needed to be done to win this game...

“I am really proud of these guys, they played great. We certainly played well enough to win. The three-pointer that went in when we were up by five was more like a throw that just somehow went in. Without that, we have a five-point lead with a game-ending possession. When it comes down to it, they shot 36 free throws and we shot 25 and you can’t guard the free throw line.”

On if this is a heart-breaking way to end the season...

“Oh yeah. I feel that we played well enough to win and in some ways, in my opinion, I felt we deserved to win. This one stings quite a bit. They always hurt so much at the end of the season. One thing that you sign up for every year is knowing how tough the end of the season always is. All the seasons that I have been involved with, whether it be as a player or coach, has never ended good.”

Senior Champ Oguchi

On his big shot near the end of the second half...

“I was looking for my shot. I felt that it was time to step up. Coach had enough confidence to put me in the game at crunch time so I went in and made the best of it.”

On his career being over...

“It hasn’t hit me yet but it will probably hit me when I get home. I feel like I am ready to play another game next week but I know there won’t be.”

Junior Osiris Eldridge

On this game ending similar to a lot of their games this season...

“It is a game that we could have won and it just didn’t go our way down the stretch. I feel we played a great game, both halves, and the game just didn’t end the way we wanted it to.”

On Dominique Sutton’s play that led to overtime...

“All I remember is getting screened and then getting screened again. He (Jacob Pullen) got into the lane and got a good look at the basket and then they got the tip-in. I think I played good defense all game, he (Jacob Pullen) just got hot. Good players make tough shots and he did.”
