Kansas State ends its season at 23-12 with tonight’s 70-65 loss to DePaul... The Wildcats’ 23 wins are the program’s most since the 1987-88 campaign, when the Wildcats went 25-9 and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament... It is also the third most in program history.
The all-time series between K-State and DePaul is now tied at 3-3 with tonight’s loss by the Wildcats... K-State had won three in a row over DePaul heading into tonight’s game... The loss was also the Wildcats’ first ever to the Blue Demons in three postseason games.
Tonight’s game was the Wildcats’ 35th of the year... It is the most games ever played by K-State in a single season.
With this evening’s loss, Kansas State’s all-time NIT record slips to 5-7, including a 5-2 mark at home.
Kansas State head coach Bob Huggins moves to 3-5 all time in NIT games... The loss marks the third straight time Huggins has gone 1-1 in the NIT... The 2007 NIT is the fifth for Huggins and his first since 1990-91 season at Cincinnati.
Kansas State’s starting lineup consisted of: seniors Lance Harris (guard), Akeem Wright (guard) and Cartier Martin (forward), as well as junior forward David Hoskins, and junior guard Clent Stewart... It is fifth straight game this season this group has started together and just the fifth time this season that K-State has used this lineup ... K-State finishes the season with a 3-2 record when this unit starts...Harris has now started 30 games this season and has appeared in 93 straight contests... Wright has started 45 games in his career, including 24 this season and 22 in a row... Martin tallied just his fifth start since Jan. 13 at Missouri... Martin has now started 77 career games... It was the 55th-straight start of Hoskins’ career... Stewart has started 22 games this season, including seven straight.
Kansas State set the school record for assists in a season in tonight’s game... Cartier Martin dished out the Wildcats’ 538th assist of the season at 18:47 of the second half when he fed David Hoskins for a layup... The Wildcats went on to finish the game with 17 assists, giving them 545 for the year... The previous record of 537 was set by the 1981-82 Wildcats.
Kansas State was outrebounded 32-25 tonight... The Wildcats’ 25 boards are their fewest in their 12 all-time NIT games.
Senior guard Akeem Wright was credited for a career-high nine assists in tonight’s game... The nine assists are the most by a Wildcat this season and the most since Clent Stewart had 10 at Missouri on Feb. 12, 2006.
Junior forward David Hoskins became the first player in school history to start 35 games in a season... He finished with the game-high 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting... It is the 11th time he has led the Wildcats in scoring this season and the eighth time he has scored 20 points or more this season... Hoskins 24 points were his most since scoring 27 on Nov. 18 vs. Tennessee Tech.
Senior forward Cartier Martin scored 24 points in his final game as a Wildcat... He leaves K-State ranked sixth all-time in scoring with 1,546 points... He is also one of just three players in school history to score over 1,500 points and collect over 500 rebounds... With a co-team high seven tonight, his most since pulling down 11 vs. Missouri, Martin leaves K-State with 540 career rebounds.
Junior guard Clent Stewart finished with 15 points and connected on a career-high four 3-point field goals... His 15 points are his third highest point total of the season and his most points since scoring 16 at Colorado.
Senior guard Lance Harris did not score in his final game as a Wildcat... It is just the third time this season that he has been held without a point and snapped an 18-game scoring streak.
