Auburn Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Nell Fortner

Opening Statement...

“I heard Sue Gunter the late basketball coach at LSU that I admire tremendously say this one time, she said we dug ourselves a hole too deep and we didn’t have a ladder to get out of it.’ I felt like that happened to us in the first half. I thought we made a good effort in the second half to get back in the ballgame, but it was just too little too late.”

On K-State’s pressure...

“I thought their pressure was really good. We rely a lot on penetration and beating people off the dribble. I felt like we did that tonight, but we usually get calls and get to the free throw line, but that wasn’t happening tonight. I thought their pressure was very good.”

On involving KeKe Carrier earlier...

“I always like to get KeKe involved earlier, but KeKe is not really in a conditioning place where we don’t really know what she’s going to bring night in and night out. It’s so upsetting because she is a heck of player. She is a difference maker when she gets into the game. We’re not always quite sure what she’s going to be like. I thought, in the second half, she woke up and it made a big difference.”

On the atmosphere...

“It was a tremendous atmosphere here. The fans are great here it’s loud, they stay in the game from the jump ball to the very end. That’s really neat. It’s a fun environment to play in. You always want to play in front of a crowd. We knew it was going to be a big crowd and we were looking forward to it.”

On Ashley Sweat...

“She opened the game with a three and we knew she was capable of that. We just didn’t defend that very well. She’s a very nice player. She seems to be a very smart player and doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. She’s obviously versatile, being at 6-2 and able to play inside and out.”
