Kansas State Head Coach Ron Prince Quotes

Opening Statement...

“It was obviously a defensive game. Really in the last couple days in practice I think we have seen that kind of defensive performance and I believe that gave us an indication of what was going to take place here today. Clearly we didn’t show everything that we have in our arsenal tonight. The offensive coordinators make, I wouldn’t even say Vince Lombardi, you would have to go back past Pop Warner to satisfy the three yards and a cloud of dust like we did tonight but that was their prerogative. The ultimate objective was to win and eat steak instead of bologna. So obviously Dave Brock came out victorious again. Frank Leonard won’t be very happy with it.  The other guys will have to live with him for the next 364 days. I thought we really accomplished some things at the inside-linebacker position, that was the place I really wanted to see improvement, I wanted to see competition and I thought that was very significant for us. I’m really pleased with the players at that position.”

On the linebacker position...

“I don’t think anyone has a solid spot at linebacker just because it good competition all the way through. It’s not that anyone has done anything poorly but they all have performed well and understand what we are trying to do and we need that to be honest with you. We need to play well and have enough people in there to play well throughout the season. So, I would say that no one has an edge on someone else.”

On Josh Freeman’s playing time...

“That was the plan. The plan was that Josh wouldn’t get more than a quarter. I really wanted to see Tyson (Hartman) and Carson (Coffman). I’m pretty well established on what Josh can do in games and I also wanted to make sure we got Trey Scott in the game. The kid has worked really hard and that was really good to see him get out in front of people and play. You can imagine that Josh was lobbying me pretty hard in the third quarter to get back in the game. He’s a good competitor and wanted to get back in but I wanted to see what Tyson was able to do, he has worked hard on scout team this year and in these conditions I wanted to see what he would do in front of people.”

On Keithen Valentine games...

“I think there is a lot of football to be played. You guys have heard how excited I am about him I think he is a really neat kid. He is very focused, we got good competition at that position, I think it is very clear that he is going to help us at that position. How much, how often and where is what we will try to figure out. I think he did a really terrific job he has the kind of personality and the type of guy you want in your locker room.”
