Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Ron Prince

Opening remarks...

“The White defense did a terrific job, Tim Tibesar, in his head coaching debut, did every bit as good as we thought he would. The White defense was terrific. No matter what unit was out there on the field, it was clear that the white defense was too fast, too good, too skilled, and very well coached and I’m very pleased with that. There were a number of mistakes by the purple for sure. I thought Carson Coffman did a terrific job, he was very poised and he’s worked hard to get back to this position. You can see why we’re very confident in him he’s never lost a game and the streak continues. A lot of praise goes to him, that’s for sure, and his preparation.”

On Josh Freeman’s performance...

“It’s one of those things where I just told him hey this is a tough game. When you come out here and don’t play well, this is how it goes in sports. You work hard, it didn’t work out, didn’t go your way. You take a lot of resolve, he’s a very proud young man. A lot of stuff goes into it but I know he’d like to play better and have a lot of other things happen.”

On the defense and how the White team managed the game...

“I’m really excited about the play of the defense. If we came out here and lit up the scoreboard and it was 42-45, 52-50, I wouldn’t be feeling very good right now. Defenses are always ahead of offenses, but in light of that Carson and the group on White managed the game and did a really good job. He really didn’t put them in too many bad situations I thought they managed the game real well. That’s sometimes what happens, you might be having an off-day, you just have to manage the game well. I’m really excited about defense. In special teams we had a couple of miscues, things we didn’t want to do. We had the ball in the middle of the field for a field goal before the half and ran the ball to the left hash. That’s something we’d like to do. We had some of those things we’ll have to clean up, but I thought overall we had a very positive spring game.”

On special teams...

“When we punted the ball, I wanted to see what our operation would look like. We had a bad snap, we had some poor decisions on fielding the ball. Those are all the things that we want to be able to coach and put them in situations and now we can teach off of that, make those corrections. We don’t want to have those things occur in the game. I thought even though we didn’t cover live and return the ball live, I still thought it was very revealing on what we need to work on and how far we have come and where we need to address things when we come to training camp.

“In place kicking, it’s been a dead heat pretty much. I think we’re going to go into training camp trying to make this decision. It’s one of those deals where we’d like to have somebody step up and be the guy for sure.”
