Defensive Player Quotes

Freshman Safety Ty Zimmerman

His thoughts on tonight game...
"I think we had a good scrimmage, overall. As far as the whole team goes, we have been battleing in practices for 15 day, so it was good to get out there tonight."

On his personal growth throughout the spring...
"I think I have done pretty well. I have had a lot of help with the switch (from offense to defense). Tysyn (Hartman) and some of the other guys that are out have been helping me a lot. They have the experience and it has just been a fun ride so far. I love (playing defense) so far, flying around and getting to hit people, it has been fun."

Junior Linebacker Jerrell Childs

His thoughts on his and the teams' performance tonight...
"It is going pretty well. I still have a lot to learn. Over the fall, I look forward to getting a lot better. As a team, I thought we did really well especially since we gave up zero points. I think we made a lot of mistakes but we did some things well."

On getting better before the start of next season...
"We need to work hard in practice, getting more reps and working on finishing plays."

Senior Defensive Back Troy Butler

Defense activities between now and fall camp...
"We just go over defense, you know, and try to learn our spots."

On defense inconsistencies this spring...
"I am not sure, really just learning different keys, learning from a different coach, and his terminology. That is probably it."

Improvements on defense since last season...
"I say, we all go to the ball. We all play to the ball more. Last year, we went to the ball, and now we fly to the ball to make a tackle. Everybody wants to make a tackle. So we're just trying to get better on that."

On interception...
"It felt good, until I realized I had to go back out there."

On defensive performance...
"We are taking what we're learning, and applying it. We have really improved."

Junior Linebacker Alex Hrebec

On how this year's team is compared to last year...
"We're definitely better as a team, as a defense than where we were at this point last year.  We definitely still have a lot to improve on.  I think we're going to sit down tomorrow and watch the tape.  A lot of those mistakes we made - we've got to get them corrected."

On Sophomore Linebacker Jarell Childs...
"He is a very athletic kid.  He's been doing a nice job for us and has caught on pretty quickly.  I'm excited to have him on our side of the ball.  He really loves the game and it's fun to play next to him.  Jarell is definitely a physical player."

On the physical size of the team...
"You know, it is always good to play with leverage. As long as you are playing low."
