Offensive Player Quotes

Junior Quarterback Carson Coffman

On the purple team’s offensive performance...

“It went well. I was hoping for a little more. We still have got a lot to work on as a team, but I had fun out there today and that’s what we were shooting for. We came out in the third quarter and we really lit it up. The first, second and fourth(quarters) we didn’t quite play as well. We were hoping to score on every single drive, and we felt like we could’ve. That didn’t happen, so we were pretty inconsistent, and we have got a lot of things to work on still.”

On the team’s progress throughout the spring and heading into the summer...

“We are much improved from where we were in the beginning of the spring. We still have a lot to work on and the guys we have I know are willing to work, so I am excited to get back out here and work this summer. This summer we will look to become more consistent with seven-on-seven, weightlifting, running and everything, just being around the guys and creating a family atmosphere here and getting better as a team.”

Senior Offensive Lineman Nick Stringer

On the purple team’s offensive performance...

“I think we did some good things. We still have some things we need to polish up on, but we got our run game going a little bit more, and we put some points on the board. We could’ve capitalized on a couple of the turnovers that the defense got, but I think that this spring we have been taking a step forward every day, and we kept that stride today.

On the consistency of the offensive line...

“Consistency is something that Coach Snyder stresses to us everyday, and I think that is something that is going to make us go from good to great. I think we did some good things out there, but we have to keep drives going. We can’t get penalties that negate a first down. Being consistent is a big thing we need to keep striving for.”

Wide Receiver Brandon Banks

On his comfort level with Carson Coffman at quarterback...

“ Oh yeah I’m pretty comfortable but we’re going to get to keep working at it as the season comes along, and keep getting better every day. But hopefully we can just get the common denominator thing, so hopefully it comes along real good.”

On where he feels the team is at right now...

“Grade-wise we are probably a C, but there is room for improvement. I think the second team offense is improving a little bit, but everyone needs to step up and get better, including me. So we’re in pretty good shape right now.

Running Back Jarrell Childs

On how it felt to play in front of a crowd again...

“It felt good, I haven’t been out in front of a crowd a lot so I was a little nervous at first but it felt pretty good.”

On your performance...

“I think I did pretty good. I made some mistakes but overall I think I did pretty good.”

On having a fullback in the system...

“I do like having a fullback in the system, that’s how my high school was so I’m used to it. I’ve always liked having a fullback.”

On break before summer practice...

“Coach wants me to work on my flexibility to get better. It’s going to help me as a player. I’m also going to work on my speed a little more.”

On the team’s attitude and practice...

“We are all trying to change our attitude. That’s something we’ve been working on. We all have to get out here and change. We have to be better than yesterday, and we are getting better everyday. Coach is changing our attitude everyday, too. At practice, we all came to work, but consistency is one thing we have to improve on. ”

Running Back Keithen Valentine

On this season’s expectations compared to last...

“I don’t want to talk about the past. They demand greatness and perfection. Coach Snyder demands perfection. They are changing little things, like having our shirts tucked in and being more polite.”

On the upcoming season ...

“I have one more year. I want to go out with a bang. I want to go do a lot of good things with my teammates. I put last season in the past, and my teammates will be helping me out this year.”

On the third quarter of today’s game and consistency ...

“Basically, we had some fun, good times during the game, but we were inconsistent like Coach said. We just have to get more consistent throughout the season. We made some strides today, but still have to get better and better this summer.”
