Defensive Player Quotes

Linebacker John Houlik

On spring football this year...

“We made a lot of headway this spring. It took the team awhile to adjust to the new staff and to the new practice format. We set a good foundation to go into the summer and head into the fall season.”

On what was preached during spring practices...

“Consistency. Being consistent. We had our good days and we had our bad days. At this level, you have to find a happy medium. You can’t be up one day and down the next. Probably the biggest thing that they were harping on is consistency and fundamentals. We really wanted to focus on our fundamentals, tackling and pursuing the ball.”

On whether or not the team is learning to stop losing...

“Yes, definitely. I think we need to become a more passionate team. I think when people make a good play, they hold it within themselves. They don’t really express the way they feel at that moment. Playing with passion is probably one of the most important things we need to work on right now.”

Linebacker Alex Hrebec

On his performance today...

“I just tried to go out there, play hard, and do my job. Whatever happens from there happens.”

On the defense today...

“I think we are getting better. We’ve definitely gotten better since the first day of spring ball. We’re nowhere near satisfied. I know we did some good things, but we’ve got a lot to work on.”

On what the coaches stressed today that wasn’t stressed last season...

“There’s not a lot of difference. A lot of the same things are being stressed. One of the main things we are stressing now is playing harder and getting better every day. We’re trying to do the little things right.”

Defensive Tackle Jeffrey Fitzgerald

On overall defensive performance...

“There was a lot of good things out there. We will come back tomorrow break down film and assess what we have to do for the upcoming phase in our program.”

On defensive talent...

“We definitely have potential, we won’t settle for not being good as we are capable of. We all have an expectation of how good we can be, we just have to continue to work hard and listen to the coaches.”

Defensive Back Craig Boswell

On position switch...

“I got a few plays on special teams last year and in the post season I worked into this spot. I was a little surprised but the coaches must have seen something that can help the program.”

Junior Defensive Lineman Kadero Terrell

On his first experience at K-State...

“It was great, but very different. The coaches are wonderful. They have put us in a great position to make plays. I have learned so much in such a short time.”

On the expectations of this defense this year ...

“Everybody is just improving everyday. Everyone is coming out hard bringing their A-game everyday. Everybody is just working hard. I am happy.”

Defensive Back Tysyn Hartman

On today’s game...

“There were some bright spots and dark spots. He gave us some crucial third downs that we didn’t want to give up. We also had to bring it out.”

On spring practice and going into the summer ...

“It’s been very challenging and difficult for us growing and trying to get through the ups and downs. We have to move on and get better. I just hope that we all just continue to move forward in summer camp this year.”
