Cabela Fishing Tournament Winners Announced

MANHATTAN, Kan. The fourth annual Cabela’s Ahearn Scholarship Fund Fishing Tournament was yet another success this past Saturday, as 232 anglers invaded Milford Lake in Junction City, Kan., and helped raise funds to benefit scholarships for student-athletes in the Kansas State athletics department.

James Lindsley of Junction City and Jeff Brumett of Manhattan earned a first-place prize of $1,655 in the Bass division with a total weight of 8.60 pounds, while Randy Landreville of Junction City and Dennis Edwards of Leavenworth finished second with total weight of 7.78 pounds and a prize of $1,035.  Chuck and Gary Ullmer of Junction City took first place in the Walleye division with a total catch of 7.71 pounds and a prize of $1,080, while Jaran Cox and Jeff Haller of Manhattan earned a second-place prize of $675 for their catch of 6.09 pounds.

Kyle Hornung and Dan Konrade were the winners in the White Bass category, as their catch of 10.92 pounds earned them a prize of $470.  Robert Engle and Kenneth Vinson of Abilene were second and the recipients of a $290 prize in the division for their catch of 6.25 pounds.  David Basil of Junction City and John Bateman of Fort Riley earned a first-place prize of $395 in the Catfish division with a total weight of 16.20 pounds, while James Diehl of Topeka and Delmar Thowe of Alma took second and a $250 prize with a total catch of 14.75 pounds.

Aside from a second place finish in the Walleye division, Manhattan native Jaran Cox took home a $500 prize for catching the largest wiper at 4.08 pounds and also was the recipient of a Land Pride Runabout provided by Kan Equip of Wamego.

The net proceeds from the tournament benefit the Ahearn Scholarship Fund.  Founded in 1964, the Fund’s primary objective is to raise money from the private sector for athletic scholarships and capital improvements at Kansas State University.
