MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State Athletics is heading to a town near you as the department kicks off its annual four-month Catbacker Tour of the state of Kansas Monday in Dodge City.

The department will make a total of 31 stops and travel more than 8,500 miles between May 14 and August 25 as representatives from the administration and coaching staffs as well as Wildcat student-athletes make visits to K-State fans across the state.

The tour will kick off with consecutive stops in Dodge City, Garden City, Scott City, Ness City and Hays over five days beginning Monday before wrapping up in August with events in Wichita and Junction City.

"The annual tour is our opportunity for our coaches, staff and student-athletes to connect with our fans around the state," said Assistant AD for Development Events Lon Floyd. "It really is a fun time for all of us.  The energy of the fans in each community is very uplifting to our staff. Each of these events provides a personal side to intercollegiate athletics.”

The annual tour is unlike any other across the country as Wildcat fans from across the state turn out in massive numbers in support of K-State’s 440-plus student-athletes. Golf tournaments, social gatherings, dinner, live auctions and a program that features Wildcat coaches and student-athletes highlight each stop as the K-State Nation prepares for an exciting 2012-13 year.

“A lot of our fans only see our student-athletes with uniforms or helmets on and from a distance,” added Floyd. “This tour helps bring them to life, and our student-athletes enjoy the opportunity to meet and interact with the fans."
