Editor's Note: The Kansas State volleyball team is in on a European tour to prepare for the 2010 season. After completing their stay in each of three cities, one Wildcat will share their experiences with you. This is the first installment of the journal entries with sophomore outside hitter Kathleen Ludwig on her experiences in Budapest, Hungary.
BUDAPEST, Hungary - Arriving in Budapest, Hungary, we did not know what exactly to expect. We knew that we were exhausted from 24 hours of traveling and that we had finally made it. We were met by our wonderful tour coordinator Petra Lehrner, with a huge smile and a reassuring welcome. From then on we have been on the go, making our way to our hotel, meals, team activities, city tours, and of course volleyball matches. I, only seeing Budapest in pictures on the internet, have been so overwhelmed at the beauty and culture of Budapest. We have already taken countless pictures and had many hilarious team moments. We were so honored to play the Hungarian National Team, with our former teammate, Rita Liliom across the net. It was so great to see Rita and catch up with her, as well as to see her be so successful on a professional volleyball level. One of our favorite moments from Budapest was the traditional Hungarian horse show. We traveled out of the city to a beautiful green part of Hungary to see a Renaissance type horse show. Our team sat in the front row and we were very happy to see the beautiful horses, and also some of the beautiful Hungarian horse riders. After the show we were able to go on a horse drawn carriage ride throughout the green fields. It was definitely an experience that I will never forget. Getting the opportunity to play the sport we love so much in such a beautiful place has been an exciting experience. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this trip holds for the Wildcats.
