Wildcats Open European Trip Against Hungary

BUDAPEST, Hungary. - The Kansas State volleyball team participated in its first competition of its European trip on Wdensday against the Hungarian National Team. The Wildcats played a hard-fought match against the Hungarians and even got to see a familiar face on the other side of the net.

Former Wildcat Rita Liliom is a recent addition to the Hungarian National Team and even underwent her rookie initiation on the court prior to the match. Vali Hejjas - a member of K-State's 2003 Big 12 Championship team - also came to watch her alma mater and National Team in the stands. Hejjas was unable to play in the match, however, after a recent knee surgery.

K-State and Hungary played four sets with the Wildcats dropping all four as they shook the cobwebs off from 24 hours of travel to get to Hungary yesterday. The Hungarian team came into the match fresh off a second-place finish at the European Continental Championships as well. The young Wildcat team had some strong performances on the day.

Sophomore Kathleen Ludwig had 10 kills and assisted on three blocks, and sophomore Alex Muff posted seven kills. Senior JuliAnne Chisholm led the Wildcats with 15 kills and added six digs to her line score. Senior libero Lauren Mathewson posted 14 digs.
