Letter from K-State Alum in Slovenia

Editor's Note: During the K-State Volleyball Team's recent European trip, the Wildcats ran into a K-State alumnus in downtown Ljubljana, Slovenia. Through conversation with Sports Information Director David Wiechmann, we learned Derek also has a connection to K-State VB in that he went to high school with The Voice of the Lady Cats Brian Smoller. Below is an email Dereksent to Coach Suzie Fritz following meeting the team on the streets of Ljubljana. It's a small world in deed.

Hello Coach Fritz,

My name is Derek Snyder - the 'KSU alum' who ran into your team in the center of Ljubljana last weekend.

First, congratulations on your win against OK Vital Saturday evening. I'm disappointed I had to head out of town and was unable to see you all play here.

As one of the founding members of the KSU cycling team, I am thrilled to see the team's passion and appreciation for making such a great trip through sports.

And I really want to thank Alex for all her positive words and the great photos she already posted on the team's website.

Having lived here for several years, I wish I had been able to visit longer and show you all around town some. Judging by the team's enthusiasm and photos, you seemed to be doing a fine job anyway! This little country is so overwhelming with beauty... Were you all able to visit the Postojna caves on your way to Venice?

Play well in Venice and have a wonderful time there; it's a special town.

Please give my regards to everyone on the team, David too!

Come back when you can and feel free to share this email with the team.

All the best,

P.S. tell Brian Smoller he really should make these trips with the team ;)
