Letter from Head Coach Suzie Fritz
Thank you to everyone who followed us on our journey via kstatesports.com. We recently returned from nine days in Europe. We spent two days in Budapest and Kecskemet, Hungary, two days in Ljubljana, Slovenia and a day and a half in Venice, Italy. It was an incredible experience filled with lots of cultural and educational opportunities, good volleyball and lots of quality time together as a team. We were privileged to have our good friends George and Janet Millikan, as well as Jen and Clint Brock make the trip with us. It would not have been the same without them.
We got to spend time with former players and good friends, Vali Hejjas and Rita Liliom in Hungary. It was wonderful to see them. They continue to play and are having great success as professional players in Europe. We were also able to experience great volleyball by playing the Hungarian National Team, as well as the competitive club, Vasas, during our stay. Budapest is one of the most beautiful and underrated cities in Europe.
Slovenia is a beautiful place with gorgeous landscape and friendly people. It is certainly someplace that a lot of people in our group want to visit again. We experienced excellent matches with OK Vital in Ljubljana and enjoyed a day in the city...even meeting a K-State alum and picking up a bassoon player from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to come watch our games. (Thanks Jim!)
Venice is an incredible city built on stilts, and very easy to get lost! We enjoyed great shopping and sightseeing in this unique and beautiful place.
Overall, the girls got in lots of great volleyball, sightseeing, touring and shopping.
We are so lucky and thankful to have been able to make this journey. Words cannot express our gratitude to USA Athletes International for their incredible gift and opportunity that they have provided to us. We will do our best to make sure that it was worth it for our team, USAAI and the rest of the K-State athletic department.
We also appreciate our administration for their support in helping us make this trip happen...specifically our sport administrator, Jamie Vaughn, our friend Laura Tietjen and our Director of Athletics, John Currie.
Thanks to many of the people that made this trip a wonderful experience, including Bill Edington and Darrell Phipps with USAAI, Diana Loomis in our office, Petra Lehrner...our proud Austrian guide, Sorin...our friendly Romanian bus driver and all of the helpful and friendly people that we met during our trip.We appreciate your continued interest and support of K-State Athletics and specifically our volleyball team. We look forward to seeing you all this fall at Ahearn Fieldhouse.
