A Letter from AD John Currie - August 5

Dear Wildcat Nation,

It’s hard to believe it is already August and we are exactly one month away from our K-State Family Reunion at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. I appreciate the fantastic response of Wildcat fans to the new ticket initiatives for the 2009 season as nearly 2,000 new season and 8,700 single-game tickets have been purchased since our Family Reunion press conference on July 13. I can’t wait to see the stadium full of purple on September 5!

I am so happy that Mary Lawrence and the kids will finally be moving to Manhattan next week. We had a great family vacation in the North Carolina mountains last week, but I am anxious to get them settled here at home.

As you probably are already aware, we will hold a Fan Forum Conference Call tomorrow, August 6, to give you an opportunity to hear from me and ask questions regarding K-State Athletics. The call will be from 10 a.m. 11 a.m. so remember to answer your phone between 9:45 10 a.m. as an automated system will ring those fans whose daytime phone numbers have been registered. I hope to hear from many of you

Also, mark your calendar for August 22 as Coach Snyder and the football team will hold Fan Appreciation Day inside the stadium beginning at 5 p.m. Check back here at k-statesports.com soon for more details.

And, speaking of calendars, thanks to a great suggestion from one of you through this “Tell John” column, we have a nice new feature available at k-statesports.com that will allow you to download all 2009-10 Wildcat athletic schedules into Microsoft Outlook, the Palm desktop program or any other standard calendar program. Click here for downloading instructions.

Season tickets for volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball season are now available here at kstatesports.com. Coach Fritz and the volleyball team open the 2009 season at home on September 1, while Coach Martin and Coach Patterson are both preparing for exciting seasons.

I also would like to take the time to recognize a few of our student-athletes and teams who have earned recognition recently. Jeron Mastrud was named a candidate for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end, as well as the AFCA Good Works team for his community service and academic accomplishments.

Jacob Pullen and Dominique Sutton will participate in a nine-day tour of eastern Europe with the East Coast All-Stars beginning this week, and Carlos Torres became the first Wildcat since 2000 to play in the Major Leagues as the pitcher was called up by the White Sox to start on July 22.

The track and field teams earned yet another academic award as both the men and women’s programs were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Teams.

I continue to appreciate your comments and suggestions, so keep sending me your thoughts, ideas, concerns or questions. I do ask for your patience with my responses as I want to personally answer your questions.

Both season and single-game tickets for the 2009 football season remain available, including individual reserved tickets for as low as $20 for the UMass game. The most convenient way to order is here online, but tickets may also be purchased in person at the K-State Athletic Ticket Office in Bramlage Coliseum or by calling, 1-800-221-CATS.

I look forward to seeing you September 5!

Go ‘Cats

John Currie
