Student-Athletes Team Up with Boys and Girls Club

More than 20 Kansas State student-athletes participated in “Field Day” with the Manhattan Boys and Girls Club in the Brandeberry Indoor Facility this summer as part of the “Introduction to Leadership Concepts” course.

This summer’s service project was working with the Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan. The Boys and Girls Clubs provide youth with a safe place to learn and grow while participating in life-enhancing programs and character development experience. The Club’s mission is, “To inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens”. On July 21, approximately 55 youth and adult staff from the Boys and Girls Club participated at Kansas State in group activities with the students of the Leadership Class. Each of the activities was specifically designed to promote team building, problem solving, communication, and listening skills. Students of the class led groups through a series of these exercises.

Facility Improvements Roll On

Work continues around Kansas State Athletics in the facility department as construction is nearing completion on the Vanier Complex and Tointon Stadium’s resurfacing project has been completed.

Work on the exterior of the Vanier Complex is still on schedule to be completed by the first football game, while the interior work will be functional but may not be 100-percent complete by that date.

Tointon Stadium received a new infield surface as FieldTurf was installed on the entire infield, foul territory and warning track areas. The only natural grass surface will be the outfield grass area, while the only area with dirt will be the pitcher’s mound and home plate areas.
