K-State Player Quotes

Quarterback Josh Freeman

On the tempo of the game...

“Things are moving just a little faster.  Being in the middle helps that a lot.  We run our system and make all our checks."

On not having a lot of mistakes...

“That was a point of emphasis.  Coach brought that up before in the meeting.  A lot of people want to rationalize and say it’s the first game and okay to have a few penalties. He said if we go out and play penalty free that’s a new standard for this offense.  I think we went out and had a couple of off sides, I can remember exactly but there’s definitely stuff we can clean up. We’re nowhere near perfect but we’ll take the win."

Wide Receiver Deon Murphy

On Brandon Banks’ performance...

“He’s been producing really well for the team.  We have seen some lightning out of him tonight.  I’m proud of him, I know the coaches are proud of him and I know the team is proud of him.”

On Josh Freeman’s performance...

“His game is rising everyday.  Josh is going to be Josh.  Josh is going to play Josh football, but he’s going to play it the way Coach Prince wants him to play it.  He played a real good game tonight.”

Running Back Logan Dold

On his first game...

“I was definitely nervous coming into the game but once I got that first play out of the way things started to come to me a little bit.”

On proving the doubters wrong...

“I definitely think I was able to prove them wrong.  I came in playing safety and after they moved me to running back I just practiced and worked at it.”

On getting the ball more in the future...

“Hopefully, as long as I keep going out and doing what I got to do at practice things should go good.”

Linebacker Olu Hall

On getting back on the field...

“It felt good. It felt really good, once I stepped on the field it just felt natural. We just had a lot of fun out there. I think we were real excited and we were ready to play."

On is approach to playing defense...

“I try to play mean and fast. I feel like I did my job tonight. I did have some pregame jitters, early on a few plays I wouldn’t quite recognize the formation so I might not have been in the right spot. Really I was just playing mean, trying to hurt somebody, if anybody got in my way I was just trying to break them."

On playing multiple positions on defense...

“I do play in multiple spots of defense, I just do what they ask me to do.  I want to perform to the best of my ability and what ever the team needs me to do I’m going to do my best. I don’t mind if my hand is down or if I’m in the backfield, with it down that means I’m rushing and if I’m not down then that is when I use my versatility.”

Linebacker Antwon Moore

On the defensively mentality...

“This past week in practice the coaches have been working us real hard and stressing us to understand that we want to be a shutout defense. So we as a defense are trying to bring back the “Lynch Mob” defense. Last season was last year so we are just focusing on this season.”

On the momentum gained in the first series...

“For myself I had a lot of esteem built since I was out the whole season last year so whenever I saw a hole open up it was my green light to go and fill the gap. I was trying to bring the momentum to the defense through me so hopefully the offense would see the defense playing hard so they would do the same. The defense still has some things up our sleeves and for right now we are just going to play defense.”

Defensive End Ian Campbell

On the team being sharper in the first half...

“They showed us a few different things than we had expected.  I was happy with our ability to adjust and as a defense you always need to be able to adjust when the offense shows us something different.”

On getting the win...

“It’s been awhile since we’ve got a win but the new season is underway so we’re happy with the win.”

On the tempo of the game...

“I felt like there was a good tempo for the most part.  I feel like the defense responded well after they had their score  and that’s what you want to see.  And we blocked that kick and that’s the first time we’ve blocked a kick since I think 2005 so that was a real good thing for us to have happen.”

On forcing turnovers...
“That’s something we really focus on is trying to force more turnovers.  We had one overturned and you can’t do anything about that.  We like to have two or three a game but we weren’t able to do that but we did get quite a few three and outs and you always take that.”
