North Texas Head Coach Todd Dodge Quotes

Opening statement...

“I’m very proud of the way we played today. We didn’t play well enough early on with the punt return to the five yard line; it really gave K-State a hot start.  I think we are really going to like our depth on defense, you can look at the number of points they scored and the number yards, but that will not tell the real story.  As I told our players there is going to be some positives taken from this, and also we got to man up and every one of us has to take a look at that video and have a burning desire to improve.”

On Josh Freeman...

“He is a tremendous player; Josh looked like a three year starter.  He is obviously gifted with size and strength and a rocket for a right arm, there is not a throw he can’t make.  The throw where he sprinted out to the right and threw about 35 or 40 yards on a rope for a touchdown in the first half, I am very impressed with him and he is definitely as advertised.”

On being competitive...

“We were from the standpoint of turnovers; we didn’t turn the ball over tonight.  The thing with us offensively, after the first three drives we had a nice drive to end the first quarter and into the second quarter.  In anyone of those drives in the game, we had anywhere from 12 play to 6 play drives you can look at one play that where we got ourselves behind the chains.  We were not able to make enough plays on third down, we had to many dropped passes tonight, I thought overall for the most part as many times as we threw the ball our offensive line protected pretty well considering the athletes they were going up against.  We did not executive well enough, give all the credit to K-State they are a very much improved football team, but in certain situations we did not execute well enough.”

On disappointment of offense...

“We expected to play much better offensively from a production standpoint, bottom line is to score one more point than the other team and obviously we did not get that done tonight.  It was a bit disappointing, its one of those things that we need to take a look at, they were absolutely in the right defense to make plays and there were times were we didn’t make enough plays."

On what to take away from tonight’s game...

“This is a totally different feel with this football team, we have so much more depth on defense and we played a lot more people on defense.  Even though we were on the short end of a very lopsided scored we feel that we improved a lot.  Offensively I think we can go back and show our kids, and they understand our offense now. We didn’t play well tonight and part of that was Kansas State and part of it was us, we need to go back and do a better job of execution."
