K-State Goes "Swoosh" With Nike Deal

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State has agreed to an exclusive multi-year partnership with Nike to provide footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories for Wildcat athletic teams, Director of Athletics Tim Weiser announced today.

The guaranteed six-year contract, which includes a two-year extension option, will provide a total contract value in excess of $12.3 million, Weiser said. All 16 K-State varsity teams will utilize Nike products beginning in the 2006-07 season.

"We are thrilled to be included in a select group of prominent collegiate programs outfitted exclusively by Nike in a department-wide manner," Weiser said. "This arrangement allows us to not only provide our student-athletes with the highest-quality footwear, apparel and equipment but will also furnish a significant cash enhancement to the athletic department budget."

Several of K-State's teams, including football and men's and women's basketball, have previously been outfitted by Nike and helped the Wildcats rank among the nation's most popular programs in terms of retail sales.

The hiring of Bob Huggins as men's basketball coach will further strengthen the relationship with Nike. During Huggins' tenure at Cincinnati, his teams were noted for their trend-setting uniform and footwear designed by Nike. Nike is creating a unique look for Huggins' first Wildcat squad to wear.

"Nike is honored to be the athletic footwear, apparel and equipment supplier of choice for Kansas State University," said Kit Morris, Nike's Director of College Sports Marketing. "We are excited about the opportunities this relationship affords to provide innovative performance products to the student-athletes and coaches at K-State."

The latest line of exclusive Nike sideline apparel for the 2006 football season is available now at the Cat Closet locations in Bill Snyder Family Stadium and at other retail stores throughout the region.
