Illinois State Player Quotes

Sophomore Free Safety Tom Nelson

On losing a close game...

“We came here expecting to win, and it hurts to lose. This is going to stick with us, but we just need to move forward and concentrate on Central Arkansas.”

On the team’s confidence after the close game...

“It gives us a lot of confidence. We already knew that we had this potential. The game just showed us what we could do, and what we need to do the rest of the season.”

Senior Wide Receiver Laurent Robinson

On the game...

“I don’t believe in moral victories. I fully intended on winning. We just came up a little bit short. We’ve got a lot of things to work on before next week. We’re a good team. We just need to show everyone who we are.”

On his school’s touchdown record...

“I had no idea that I even broke the record. I’ve just been going out and playing hard. I’ve got to credit Luke (Drone) for putting the ball where it needs to be, and the offensive line for giving him the time.”

Senior Linebacker Cameron Siskowic

On the game...

“Just like a couple of years ago against Minnesota, we had a chance. Last year at Iowa State, it was 8-8 at halftime. This year, to lose by one point, it’s always a woulda’, coulda’, shoulda’, and it’s disappointing. Every time, especially in the conference we play in and the schedule we play, to have a loss on our record is tough. We had a win at our fingertips. That’s the worst feeling in the world. I am proud of my teammates, and I thought Coach Scott called a great game. We gave up nine points on defense. Special teams stuff happens, and I wish it wouldn’t have happened against a team like this. I wish I was playing in overtime right now.”

Junior Quarterback Luke Drone

On the two-point conversion call...

“It was planned. They stunted inside, and I kind of got leveraged and couldn’t get in.”

On the play of Laurent Robinson...

“Anytime anyone plays one-on-one against Laurent Robinson, we feel like he’s going to win every time. If people are going to stop the run like that, we are going to have to make them pay on the outside.”
