Kansas State Head Coach Ron Prince Quotes

On coming out the second half with a lead...

“Two things really stuck out with me tonight. I am really happy we won. Number one, it showed me how well-coached and what a terrific team Montana State is. We could not run the ball effectively against them and when they ran the ball, we had difficulty tackling them. I thought that really showed up in a big way tonight in the second half. We just had better players or maybe just had more of them. That was a terrific team we played against and they will be successful.”

On the success with Special Teams...

“It is what we have to do. That is how we have to play at Kansas State. It is part of our culture, history, and tradition. It is just what we have to do. Those are the plays we are counting on to be capable of winning the kind of games that we want to win. We did not punt tonight and did not get everything out of every punt return we would have liked. It was our effort to go in there and block them. It was very positive.”

On Josh Freeman...

“I think he was terrific tonight. I really do. He is a young man that has really progressed. No one has done it under a microscope like he has. We are just two games down and the competition will step up, which means our game will have to step up with it.”

On the Offensive Line...

“I am really happy we won. I am not very happy with the way we are blocking. I am not very positive about the way we are running the football. We are going to have to do better. Yes, we won 69-10 and I am not trying to be a jerk, but bottom line is that you have to be able to put consistent drives together, a lot of good plays together, and the truth is that this is a very good Montana State team, but I had a higher expectation for how we would block them tonight and I am not pleased with it.”

On Brandon Banks...

“He is a hungry and humble young man and that is important for all football players. The hungrier you are and the more humble you are, the more readily you accept coaching and step up to challenges. I think he has been doing that his whole life. He has probably been told quite a bit that he is too small. He does not accept those limitations that others put on him and he is really trying to work to learn our system. He is a great team player. He has some things to learn still and we would like to say that we are giving him some opportunities right now but, I am really pleased with Brandon and Aubrey (Quarles) and they way they are coming into our system and trying to fit in.”

On young personnel getting playing time...

“It is really important that a young man like Brandon Harold, Daniel Calvin, Raphael Guidry, and Payton Kirk can get into games and function and have confidence for us. I thought our coaching staff did a really nice job of getting our kids into the game. We wanted to play a lot of kids if we had the opportunity to but, we definitely wanted to maintain a high standard. And in some ways, I was happier with the second group that was out there in the second half because I thought that with their intensity and focus they were trying to prove that they belong there.”
