San Jose State Player Quotes

Senior Quarterback Adam Tafralis

On preparation for Stanford...

“I can only speak for my side of the ball.  I know offensively we need to cut back on the penalties.  We killed ourselves with the penalties.  Just false starts and obviously the crowd plays a part.  We have not played in front of a crowd this big and we’ve got some young guys up front and that’s what happens.  The penalties are the biggest thing we’ve got to do and just converting third downs.”

On throwing the ball so much...

“For one, we’ve got two guys out. With Yonus (Davis) and Pat (Perry) out we had to do something so we had that fly game in and we knew quarterback runs can hurt people because a lot of times they don’t take the quarterback into account.  So we went with that and I think it did well for us.  I think our offensive moved the ball fairly well.  I know it’s a lot better than last week.”

On playing wide receiver...

“I support it 100 percent.  He (Coach Tomey) asked me what my favorite play was before the game.  I wrote that formation that play.  I was excited to catch the ball.”

Junior Wide Receiver Kevin Jurovich

On the team’s performance tonight...

“The offense just needs to click a lot more, from this week to last week. I think the biggest thing was we wanted to compete.

We thought last week we kind of gave up. Arizona State got a lead on us and we stuck our tails under our legs. This week we just wanted to come out and play hard and give it all we got.”

On Dwight Lowery’s interception...

“That was huge. Anytime the defense can create a turnover and suddenly we change to offense, that is definitely a boost. I think we were all fired after that happened. Dwight is a great player and he makes a lot of great plays for us and we are excited to have him on the team.”

On the Adam Tafralis injury...

“He is one of our offensive leaders and he’s a great player. I felt like the other quarterbacks stepped in and did a great job for us and we were moving the ball. We had a lot of penalties and we kind of hurt ourselves on offense. I felt like the other guys did a great job.”

On the play of the backup quarterbacks...

“They all bring something else to the table and whoever is in at quarterback our team supports them one hundred percent. We played four guys so whoever is in we were behind them.”

Junior Defensive Back Chris Owens

On his interception...

“We had a chance to make a play on the ball and we did. Thanks to the guys up front though for putting pressure on the quarterback and it made it easy for us.”

On teams play tonight...

“We are optimistic about the season. We bounced back a ton from last week as far as toughness and maintaining poise and the way we played basically. So we do feel better but we still lost.”

On K-State’s offense...

“They threw 56 passes against Auburn, we knew they could throw. I wouldn’t say I was surprised they did what they did but they played us well.”

On what the defense needs to improve...

“Everything, from rushing the quarterback to tackling, especially tackling better. We need more effort plays too, anything you can think of on defense we need to get better at.”
