Kansas State Player Quotes

Sophomore Quarterback Josh Freeman

Opening statement...

“We moved the ball well. We were able to establish a running game and able to get a win. I feel confident in the offensive line. That was their second straight game without giving up a sack. Jordy Nelson put up some great numbers. Everybody had a little role in tonight’s victory and we’re just feeling good.”

On Jordy Nelson’s play...

“Jordy is a great player. Coach called the plays to get him the ball. All I have to do is go through my reads and get it to him. He did a great job making some plays. As the quarterback, all you want is to just get the ball into Jordy’s hands and let him make a play.”

On the upcoming game against Texas...

Texas is a good team. We have to come out prepared like we did last year. We have the bye week, so we’ve got two solid weeks of practice. We’re trying to get our feet back under us and be able to go out there and play fresh. I think we just need to play our game. We all know what to do. We just have to make sure everything is fine tuned and eliminate the errors, and we’ll do a good job.”

Senior Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson

On his record-breaking performance ...

“I really don’t know what to think right now. Personally, you don’t go into a game thinking that you might do something like that. But you just get into a flow. Coach is getting into a rhythm of calling plays and things happen.”

On his thoughts on the offense ...

“I feel real comfortable. I think the second year with Coach Prince is really different because we know the offense extremely well. Everyone is comfortable around here and I think it is showing a little bit and I think we have a lot of things going for us right now.”

On the significance of his record...

“Right now I don’t think it means that much. It’s good to have, but right now it’s not what the team is worried about. We’re just after the win-and-loss record right now. It’ll probably mean more when we come back after we’re done here and look back on things, and it’ll seem great. Right now we’re worried about wins and losses and we got a W’ tonight, and that’s big.”

Junior Wide Receiver Deon Murphy

On his feelings about the game...

“I’m pretty happy with it. It’s something that we’ve been looking for all year since these first three games. It’s something we got done and we’re going to continue to do it. I think we just played well by getting the ball into the right playmakers’ hands. We had a lot of chances out there to make a lot of big plays. That’s what we’re going to continue to do. We’re going to make big plays.”

Junior Linebacker Ian Campbell

On Kansas State defensive performance...

“I was just happy with our defense and how we played; our assignments were sound and we did a pretty good job of tackling for the most part. We got the win and we held them under their normal average for yards, so we were pretty pleased with how we played.”

On the outlook of the team going into a bye week...

“I’m pretty happy with where the team is at right now. With the bye week we have a long time to prepare for our next opponent. So I’m happy about that.”

On the defensive lines performance...

“I felt like their front five on their offensive line had a lot of trouble dealing with our defensive line. Any time we brought an extra defensive lineman or linebacker it presented a lot of pressure for them and they had difficulty dealing with that.”

On Missouri State’s stagnant offense...

“Any time, as an offense, that can be very discouraging whenever you go out there three times in a row and you really can’t get anything going. I was pretty pleased with how all that went for us. Defensively, the penalties are something that we have to eliminate. We can’t have that kind of thing; it is something that we have been really harping on. We have another game and this happens again so you just have to go back to the drawing board as far as that goes and improve our discipline a little bit better for that.”

Senior Defensive End Rob Jackson

On the play of Jordy Nelson...

“Jordy, he is a really great receiver. He has great hands. I think I’ve only seen Jordy drop one pass since I’ve been here, and that was in practice. He is a clutch player and a big-time receiver. When the ball is in the air going to him there is a 99 percent chance he is going to catch that ball, or nobody is going to get it. He is a big-time player and a real impact player.”

On the defense’s progress ...

“Obviously, we have stuff to clean up on. Overall, I think that we had a good showing today. The drive that they scored on, we gave them 30 yards in penalties. Those are just some things that we have to clean up. You take away those 30 yards in penalties and who knows.”

On preparing for the Texas game on Sept. 29...

“We know that we can’t get too overconfident. Texas and Missouri State are two different teams. We know that we have to step up our game that much more as we go play Texas, at Texas. It was a good win for us, we needed it but we know that it is going to be a completely different game in Austin.”
